Our Story

Our story begins with a bulldog named Liam - who has a rap sheet longer than a CVS receipt, including dog reactivity, a bite history, a habit of attacking cats, and a love for zoomies (even if it knocks over humans). After a few failed attempts, many tears, and countless phone calls, we found a trainer and philosophy that worked for us, and we are so happy, while we still had reactive moments (because we aren’t perfect!), that Liam spent the rest of his life as his most authentic self, feeling fulfilled, content, and joyful. We are infinitely grateful to have found effective training that built his confidence, regulated his nervous system, and taught him how to cope with his emotions to make healthy decisions that support his holistic wellness. Now, we are on a mission to help others do the same, through our training, boarding, and teaching services.

We are so excited to support you & your canine companion on your journey to living more a more balanced life and can’t wait to hear from you!

Welcome to Maude & the Bulldogs!

Jen is the owner of Maude and the Bulldogs, LLC, and is responsible for the day to day operations at our first location, marketing, training, client communication, and more. She is located on the south side of Madison.

About Jen

As the proud mama of two rescue bulldogs, both of whom presented with behavioral issues, I know the challenges that come with owning tough dogs, especially finding a place for them to board that will meet their needs.

I began pet sitting and dog walking for other owners in 2020, and in June 2021 I officially created Maude and the Bulldogs, LLC, for owners like me, who want their challenging dogs to safely stay at a home-away-from-home.

I’ve learned a lot about dog training and behavior management through working part time at a phenomenal board and train company, KANE9 Dog Training & Advocacy, as well as fostering (over two dozen dogs and counting!), teaching in person private lessons for dogs and their owners, and boarding dogs of all temperaments, breeds, shapes, and sizes.

In October 2021, I completed a shadow program with Kaitlin Stankowski of KANE9 Dog Training & Advocacy (Madison, WI), which has enhanced and expanded my skill set. I apprenticed with Kait throughout the winter of 2021-2022 before transitioning into board & train work at KANE9 through January 2024

In May 2023, I completed a shadow program with Stephanie and her team at Method K9 (Post Falls, ID). I completed shadow programs with both Alana at WolfMoonDogs (Salisbury, MD) and Brianna Dick at PackLeaderHelp (Alexandria, VA). I am a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) and regularly attend webinars and online seminars to grow my knowledge base and learn the “why behind the what.”

As a behavior change nerd who spent many years in graduate school studying chronic disease self-management through lifestyle interventions using the lens of behavioral economics, my favorite parts about training are helping owners sustainably fit dog training into their daily routines, shaping mindset and behavior in the pursuit of holistic health and wellness, and increasing quality of life. Change is hard, but by habit stacking, creating new patterns and routines, breaking large goals into smaller ones, tracking progress, celebrating wins, and creating a customized action plan, we can see incremental success over time.

About Brittney

My story starts like so many others - I adopted a tough dog.

Wyatt was 6 years old when I adopted him, reactive to dogs, bikes, runners and impossible to take to the vet. Through the help of a balanced trainer, and consistent hard work (over 3 years of it - but who’s counting, right?), we enjoy our daily walks, navigate vet appointments and have an awesome relationship.

After Wyatt was in a good place, I started fostering dogs to learn more about dog temperaments. It was awesome to see how a bit of training and structure helped these dogs transform in our short time together. And there’s nothing better than helping a dog find their person/people. I now help other fosters through the fostering process.

I’ve always been so grateful for structured boardingWyatt can’t be boarded just anywhere. And I want to give back to the community that has given me so much. I’m excited to offer owners peace of mind - I’m one additional home that your dog can come to, and you’ll know their training will be maintained, they will be loved on (in a way that serves them) and they will be fulfilled.

Outside of the dog world, I enjoy yoga, hiking, trying new recipes, challenging myself to do hard things or things I said I’d never do (currently training to do a 5k), going to stand up comedy shows, binging documentaries, and reading.

We are foster-less until 2025!

We look forward to hosting more dogs in the new year.
